Questions

Will I lose my progress?

Only if you clear this browser's site data or use a different browser/device — progress is stored locally, not in an account.

What if a listing skips one of these steps?

Treat it as a warning sign. A landlord or authorized agent with nothing to hide won't object to you seeing the apartment in person, reading the lease first, or verifying a broker's license before paying anything.
